Hyundai Mobis and Russia's Yandex will be testing a public robotaxi service with a newly developed self-driving car, the auto parts maker said Thursday.

현대모비스는 러시아의 얀덱스와 협력 개발한 완전 자율주행 로보택시(로봇과 택시의 합성어)를 시범 주행한다고 목요일 밝혔다.

An auto parts affiliate of Hyundai Motor and global IT company Yandex will test ride 100 driverless cars on public roads in Moscow by the end of this year.

현대자동차그룹의 부품전문기업 현대모비스와 세계적인 정보통신기업 얀덱스는 연말까지 모스크바 도로에서 100대의 자율주행 차량을 시범 운행한다.

Together, they will expand the testing of jointly developed control systems for driverless vehicles to other regions.

양사는 무인 자동차를 위해 공동 개발한 자율주행 시스템의 시범 운행을 다른 지역으로 확장해 나갈 계획이다.

Earlier in March, the two companies signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU), with the ultimate goal of creating a self-driving platform that can be used by any car manufacturer or taxi fleet.

양사는 지난 3월 모든 차량과 택시에 도입 가능한 자율주행 플랫폼 개발이란 궁극적인 목적을 위한 양해각서(MOU)를 체결했다.

The two have been cooperating in artificial intelligence (AI) technologies for voice and video recognition as well as infotainment technologies.

양사는 인포테인먼트 기술, 음성과 영상을 인식하는 인공지능 기술 개발을 함께해왔다.

Just six weeks after signing the MOU, the two companies succeeded in transforming the Hyundai Sonata into a driverless vehicle.

양사는 공동개발을 시작한 지 6주 만에 신형 쏘나타를 완전 자율주행 차량으로 변신시키는 데 성공했다.

Hyundai Mobis dispatched its researchers to Russia to accelerate platform development.

현대모비스는 플랫폼 개발을 앞당기기 위해 러시아로 연구진을 파견했다.

Yandex is known to have strengths regarding AI-based autonomous algorithms, while Hyundai Motor Group's auto parts maker unit is equipped with core autonomous parts technologies and sensors to ensure safety of the control system.

얀덱스는 인공지능 기반의 자율주행 알고리즘을 확보한 회사로 유명하고, 현대모비스는 제어 시스템의 안정성을 확보하는 핵심부품과 센서를 보유하고 있다.

Hyundai Mobis said it expects the collaboration to serve as a gateway into the future mobility market and securing future vehicle technologies.

현대모비스는 이번 협업이 미래 자동차 기술을 확보하고 미래 이동수단 시장을 향한 관문 역할을 할 것으로 기대한다고 밝혔다.
