아베 신조 일본 총리, 건강 이상으로 사임 밝혀

Japan's longest-serving prime minister, Shinzo Abe, said Friday he intends to step down because a chronic health problem has resurfaced. He told reporters that it was ''gut wrenching'' to leave so many of his goals unfinished.

일본의 최장수 총리 아베 신조가 만성적인 건강 문제가 재발하여 사임하려 한다고 금요일 밝혔다. 그는 기자들에게 많은 목표를 미완성 상태로 두고 떠나는 것이 "마음 아프다"고 얘기했다.

Abe has had ulcerative colitis since he was a teenager and has said the condition was controlled with treatment. Concerns about Abe's health began this summer and grew this month when he visited a Tokyo hospital two weeks in a row for health checkups.

아베 총리는 10대 때부터 궤양성대장염을 앓았으며 치료로 상태를 조절했다고 말했다. 아베 총리의 건강에 대한 우려는 올여름부터 시작됐으며 그가 이달 들어 건강검진을 위해 2주 연속 도쿄의 한 병원을 찾으면서 커졌다.

He is now on a new treatment that requires IV injections, he said. While there is some improvement, there is no guarantee that it will cure his condition and so he decided to step down after treatment Monday, he said.

그는 현재 수액 주사를 맞아야 하는 새로운 치료를 받고 있다고 밝혔다. 약간의 호전은 있지만, 병이 치유될 것이라는 보장이 없기에 월요일 치료 후 사임을 결정했다고 그는 설명했다.

''It is gut wrenching to have to leave my job before accomplishing my goals,'' Abe said Friday, mentioning his failure to resolve the issue of Japanese abducted years ago by North Korea and a territorial dispute with Russia.

금요일 아베 총리는 일본인 납북 문제와 러시아와의 영토 분쟁 해결 실패를 언급하며, "목표를 이루기 전에 사임하는 것은 매우 고통스럽다"라고 말했다.

He said his health problem was under control until earlier this year but was found to have relapsed in June when he had an annual checkup.

그는 올해 초까지만 해도 건강에 큰 이상이 없었으나, 지난 6월에 받은 연간 건강검진을 통해 병이 재발한 것을 발견했다고 밝혔다.
