터키 여객기 사고로 3명 숨지고 많은 승객들 부상 입어

ISTANBUL (AFP) – Three people have died and 179 were injured when a plane skidded off the runway at an Istanbul airport, caught fire and split into three after landing in rough weather.

이스탄불의 공항에서 여객기가 활주로에서 미끄러지며 화재와 함께 세 부분으로 쪼개졌다. 이 사고로 3명이 숨지고 179명이 부상을 입었다. 

Live images broadcast on Turkish television showed several people climbing through a large crack in the severed aircraft and escaping onto one of the wings at the rear. 

터키 현지 TV를 통해 생중계된 영상은 여러 명이 분리된 항공기에 생긴 커다란 틈 사이를 올라가 꼬리 날개 쪽으로 탈출하는 모습을 보여줬다. 

The Boeing 737 operated by Turkish low-cost carrier Pegasus Airlines had flown into Istanbul’s Sabiha Gokcen airport from the Aegean port city of Izmir on Wednesday, NTV television reported. 

사고가 난 보잉 737기는 터키의 저비용항공사인 페가수스 항공 소속으로, 수요일 에게해 항구도시 이즈미르에서 출발해 이스탄불 사비하 괵첸 공항에 도착했다고 터키 NTV방송이 보도했다. 

The plane was apparently buffeted by strong winds and heavy rain lashing Istanbul, Turkey’s largest city. 

여객기는 터키의 가장 큰 도시 이스탄불을 강타한 강한 바람과 폭우에 심하게 흔들린 것으로 보인다. 

Three Turks were killed and 179 injured, Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca told reporters. 

파레틴 코카 터키 보건장관은 기자들에게 터키인 3명이 숨지고 179명이 부상을 입었다고 전했다. 

“Some passengers evacuated the plane by themselves but others are stuck inside and our rescuers are working to free them,” Transport Minister Mehmet Cahit Turhan said on CNN-Turk television. 

메흐메트 자히트 투르한 터키 교통부 장관은 CNN-터키 TV에서 “승객들 중 일부는 스스로 대피했지만 다른 승객들은 안에 갇혔고, 우리 구조대가 승객들을 구출하기 위해 노력하고 있다”고 말했다. 

The plane was carrying 177 passengers and six crew members, state news agency Anadolu said, revising the previous total given by Turkish authorities. 

터키 관영 아나돌루 통신은 여객기에 177명의 승객과 6명의 승무원이 탑승했다고 전하며 터키 당국이 먼저 발표한 집계를 수정했다. 

Turkish media reports said there were 12 children on board. 

터키 언론은 12명의 아이들이 타고 있었다고 보도했다. 

Istanbul governor Ali Yerlikaya said the plane “slid some 60 meters (200 feet)” after skidding off the runway, and then “fell about 30-40 meters” down a bank. 

알리 예르리카야 이스탄불 주지사는 비행기가 활주로에서 미끄러진 뒤 약 60m를 지나 30~40m 거리의 둑 아래로 떨어졌다고 밝혔다. 

The accident, which he attributed to bad weather, “could have had more serious consequences,” he said.  

그는 악천후로 인한 이번 사고가 “더 심각한 결과를 초래할 수 있었다”고 설명했다. 

NTV showed images of the badly damaged plane and flames inside, which were later put out by firefighters. 

NTV는 심하게 파손된 비행기와 내부 화염의 모습을 방송했고, 불은 소방관들에 의해 꺼졌다.
